file は、情報処理の用語で「ファイル」、document は「文書」、
associate は「関連付ける」と訳し、特別な意味を持っているようです。た
だし、情報処理についての詳しい解説は、その分野に詳しい方がコメントし

上記の(1) の英文を読むと、to associate a document with a file という
言葉の意味がぼんやりとわかるような気がします。(2) の和文を読むと、情

次に、「関連付け」という言葉の意味については、下記の説明を読んでみてください

つまり、to associate （関連付ける）というのは、文書と、その文書を作るときに使っ
たソフトウェアプログラムとをリンクさせて（つなげて）、そうすることによって、コ
マンド（ソフトウェアに対する命令）を一つだけコンピュータに入力すれば、それだけ
で、文書とそのプログラムとの両方が呼び出せるようにすることのようですね。

あとで文書とプログラムとを呼び出そうと思ったら、普通ならば、文書を呼び出すため
のコマンドを入力し、それからプログラムを呼び出すためのコマンドを入力するとい
う、二重の手間が必要です。その二重の手間を省いて、ただ一つのコマンドだけを入力
すればいいようにするための便利な作業を、「関連付け」（to associate,
